Pet policies vary from one room or cabin to the next and they change, so this guide uses only what each property’s own site, or the agency that runs it, says. We checked them on Oct. 19, 2026. At most of these places, pets allowed means some rooms or cabins, not all of them, and sites differ on fees, size limits and how many dogs. Ask before you book, and get the answer in writing.
The short answer
- Eleven places in our records say pets are allowed, from an inn one block off the square to two Forest Service campgrounds and two state park options.
- Fourteen say no, though several accept service animals.
- Georgia State Parks: a leash no longer than six feet, owner present, and no pets in lodges, yurts or park buildings.
- Ask every host about pet fees and limits; they are not the same everywhere.

These properties’ own sites say pets are not allowed, each linked to the page that says so: The Dahlonega Square Hotel & Villas, The Old Storehouse Inn, The Limelight Inn, The Inn at Blackberry Hill, Mountain Laurel Creek Inn & Spa, The Mountain Top Lodge, Dahlonega Resort and Vineyard, Reserve at Fireside (Travel Dahlonega), Dahlonega Hideaway Havens, LoveAdventures Landscape Hideaways, The Cardinal Hill, Copper Mines Lodge, Dahlonega Estate (The Estate and The Cave) and Len Foote Hike Inn. What are the leash rules on trails?
In Georgia State Parks, pets must be on a leash no longer than six feet and with the owner at all times, per the park rules. Pets are not allowed in park buildings, lodges, yurts, swimming areas or beaches. Those rules apply at Amicalola Falls and Vogel.
At the Forest Service’s DeSoto Falls Recreation Area, off US 129 in the Chattahoochee National Forest, dogs must be leashed at all times, per the Forest Service. Two waterfalls can be seen from its trails.
Downtown, leashed pets are allowed on the Dahlonega Gold Museum State Historic Site grounds and trails but not inside its buildings, per Georgia State Parks. The museum is in the 1836 courthouse on the Public Square, so one person can see the exhibits while another waits outside with the dog.
