Lodging taxes in Dahlonega: what gets added to your room rate

The short answer

In Dahlonega and Lumpkin County, a room, cabin or short-term rental carries an 8% local hotel-motel tax, Georgia's $5.00 per night fee, and sales tax at the county's 8% rate. The state fee stops on the 31st night of an unbroken stay. If you book a county rental through a platform such as Airbnb or VRBO, the platform remits the hotel-motel taxes.

Summer view looking down from the Gold Museum's upper level across the square's parking lot: a row of 19th-century two-story commercial buildings (green-trimmed facade at left, low shingled shopfronts center), about 15 parked cars, young street trees, brick sidewalk in the foreground, and a wooded green ridge rising behind the town under blue sky with cumulus. A few tiny pedestrians by the shops; no legible signs.
